IB - Environment and health

Human health and well-being is intimately linked to the state of the environment. Good quality natural environments provide basic needs, in terms of clean air and water as well as soil for food production. It also provides important recreation opportunities and supports well-being.

Research in this field is heterogeneous and may refer to:

  1. Investigation of occurrence, risk and distribution of disease and known/potential health hazards (e.g. noise, extreme temperatures, pollution of air, water, soil);
  2. Development of methods and tools for exposure assessment and study of environmental stressors that affect human health;
  3. Establishing criteria for different types of health impact assessment and suggestions on the environment’s role in human health.

Research works have experimental, technical and theoretical characters.
