The evaluation takes into account patents and protection rights for utility models and exclusive rights of breeders to plant varieties, the subject of which is substantively related to scientific research conducted at the entity in a given scientific discipline, as well as the commercialization of the results of scientific research or development work, the subject of which concerns a given scientific discipline.
The following numbers of points are awarded for patents for inventions granted to entities undergoing evaluation:
- 100 points - in the case of a European patent granted to this entity or a patent granted abroad in at least one of the countries belonging to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, provided that the invention has also been filed with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland.
- 75 points – in the case of a patent granted to this entity by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland.
- 50 points - in the case of the patent referred to in point 1 or 2, granted to an entity other than the one being evaluated, if the author or co-author of the invention for which the patent was granted is an employee of the evaluated entity.
- 50 points – in the case of the breeder's exclusive right to a plant variety granted to this entity by the Main Center for Research on Cultivated Plant Varieties or the Community Plant Variety Office.
- 30 points – in the case of a utility model protection right granted to this entity by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland or abroad.
If more than one patent or protection right is granted, only one such achievement with the highest score is taken into account in the evaluation.
