Chungnam National University visits Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk
The meeting began in the senate hall at the Atheneum Gedanense Novum at Medical University of Gdańsk , and was preceded by individual presentations by each university - first by the host, Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of MUG, followed by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, and Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, Rector of UG and chairman of the Union Assembly. Chungnam National University was represented by Prof. Jeong-Kyoum Kim, President, Prof. Hyun Joo An, Vice President for International Affairs, and Prof. Dae Hoon Kwak, Director of the Office of the President.
On behalf of the Pomeranian universities, the meeting was also attended by: Prof. Anna Żaczek from the Medical University of Gdansk, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation, Michał Hoffman, PhD, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs, Prof. Tomasz Bączek, Rector's Plenipotentiary for the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Program, and Olga Hofman, Head of the Administration Department for the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Program; from Gdansk University of Technology – Justyna Kucińska-Lipka, PhD, associate professor, Vice-Rector for Development, Christian Jungnickel, PhD, associate professor, Rector’s Representative for Cooperation with Asian Scientific and Didactic Institutions, Prof. Juliusz Orlikowski, Vice-Dean for Cooperation and Development (Faculty of Chemistry), Piotr Kaczmarek, PhD, Vice-Dean for Education (ETI), Aleksandra Dorota Mielewczyk-Gryń, PhD, associate professor, Vice-Dean for Organization (FTiMS); from the University of Gdansk - Prof. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, and Prof. Wieslaw Laskowski, Vice-Rector for Research; Fahrenheit Union of Universities was represented by Katarzyna Zygmunt, Deputy Director of the Union.
The first part of the meeting ended with signing cooperation agreements between the member universities of Daniel Fahrenheit Union of Universities and Chungnam National University. The guests were then given a tour of the university campuses of MUG, Gdańsk Tech and UG.
At Gdansk University of Technology, guests from South Korea visited the historic Main Building, as well as STOS Competence Center. This is one of the most modern IT complexes in Europe, where the supercomputer of Gdańsk University of Technology - “Kraken” - works on a daily basis. The representatives from Chungnam National University had the opportunity to tour the modern server rooms of STOS Competence Center and learn how they function and support science.
Chungnam National University functions as a regional national university. It covers the Daejeon, Sejong and Chungnam regions and brings together more than 20,000 students and staff, including more than 1,000 international students from 30 countries. The university offers a wide range of disciplines, from the humanities and social sciences, engineering, management and economics, to the arts, sports and medical sciences. It works to foster cooperation and synergy between academic environment, industry and research institutions.
