At the end of June, the latest edition of the Journal Citation Reports compilation of the most cited journals, published annually by Clarivate Analytics, became available. Notably, the JCR includes an updated 2023 Journal Impact Factor (JIF) for journals indexed in the Web of Science database. Compared to previous years, modifications have been made to the JCR to continue the changes initiated last year and increase transparency in the indicators presented.

This year's changes covering all journals in the WoS Core Collection:

  • Unified Categories: In 2024, 229 scientific and social fields were introduced with unified categories, making it easier to compare journals.
  • Ranking of journals: All journals in a category are now ranked together, regardless of their previous editions.

June also saw the publication of updated CiteScore indices for 29,777 titles indexed in the Scopus database created by Elsevier, of which 2,212 titles received it for the first time.

You can read more about the indicators and how they are calculated on our website: Bibliometrics.
