Iranian (Persian) New Year celebration - March, 21st

Happy Norouz
We invite employees and students to participate in the celebrations of Nowruz, which will take place on Thursday, March 21st, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Creative Room at Hydromechanics (building no. 11).

The Persian New Year celebrations will be held at Gdańsk University of Technology for the second time - we celebrated Nowruz together for the first time last year.

Nowruz marks the first day of the Zoroastrian calendar and always falls on the spring equinox, usually March 20th or 21st. While Nowruz is most famously celebrated in Iran, it is also celebrated with all Persian language countries and communities around the world. Over the 13 days of festivities, Nowruz celebrates nature, reinforces familial and community ties, and is based on the values of peace, coexistence, and respect.

The initiator of the event is Najmeh Hassas, PhD from the Faculty of Architecture.

- For Nowruz, we will set up a Haft Sin, which is a display, often on a table or the floor, that as a whole represents renewal for the new year. A Haft Sin table hosts a collection of symbolic elements. The reason there are seven, and all start with the letter "s," or in the Farsi alphabet "sin," is incredibly intentional. Seven represents the seven eternal laws of the Iranian prophet Zarathushtra. All of these elements have their specific meaning and concepts – says Najmeh Hassas.

The event will be a great opportunity to get to know the rich Iranian culture. We invite everyone interested in participating in the event – employees and students, but also high school students who will visit our university on March 21st as part of the Open Day.
