Muhammad Bilal is working as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Gdansk University of Technology, Poland. Previously, he served as an assistant/associate Professor at Poznan University of Technology, Poland, and the School of Life Science and Food Engineering, Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Huaian, China. He earned his Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, specializing in bioengineering and applied biotechnology. His main research activities are oriented to Environmental biotechnology, nanotechnology, enzyme engineering, immobilization, chemical modifications, and industrial applications of microbial enzymes, liquid, and solid waste management – valorization of agro-industrial wastes and biomaterials for bioenergy. To date, he has authored over 700 peer-reviewed articles, 150 book chapters, 25 edited books, and 10 editorial-type scientific articles in various areas of Science and Engineering. Dr. Bilal has a h-index of 94 with 34 000 citations (Google Scholar). He is associate editor of Frontiers in Chemical Engineering and Frontiers in Environmental Science (Frontiers), and editorial board member for several journals. He was listed as a highly cited researcher (Clarivate) in 2021 and holds several "highly cited papers" in WOS. Dr. Bilal collaborates with researchers from TOP QS Universities, such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico), Nottingham Trent University (UK), Purdue University (USA), Tiradentes University (Brazil), Curtin University (Malaysia), University of Sfax (Tunisia), Khalifa University (UAE), University of Borås (Sweden), ICP-CSIC, C/ Marie Curie 2 (Spain) and University of the Punjab (Pakistan), among other international recognized research centers. He acts as a reviewer of international research agencies, such as Qatar University Internal Grants, the National Science Center, Poland, National Research Programme for Universities, Pakistan, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is currently focused on the development of catalytic reduction processes for the degradation of recalcitrant environmental pollutants in aqueous conditions at the Department of Sanitary Engineering. This work is part of the Nobelium project, "Joining Gut Research Community" (DEC 44/2023/IDUB/I.1), which spans from July 15, 2023, to July 14, 2025.
