The 43rd Seminar of Advanced Materials Center

43. sem CMP

We warmly invite you to the 43rd seminar of the Advanced Materials Center, which will take place on May 13th, 2026 (Wednesday) at 1:15 p.m. in NE 140 (building 42, WETI B).

Prof. Zdenka Fohlerova, Department of Microelectronics, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, will present a talk entitled "When Materials Meet Biology: From Biosensors to Mechanobiology".

Zdenka Fohlerová is a researcher specializing in electrochemical biosensors, with a primary focus on graphene acid derivatives for immunosensors and enzyme-based biosensors. She has experience in electrode modification with nanomaterials, their characterization, biomolecule immobilization, and electrochemical measurement techniques, including voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Her research also includes the preparation of hybrid hydrogels incorporating electroactive materials, such as conductive polymers and piezoelectric fibers, for use in cell studies involving electrical and mechanical stimulation. She is the principal investigator of the GACR project entitled "Mapping of cell-generated force in real-time using polymeric micropillars|" GAČR GJ19-04270Y.

After the seminar, we traditionally invite you for pizza!

Abstract:

The lecture will present several research areas in biomaterials and bioengineering. It will highlight the development of graphene derivatives for immunosensor applications and the use of whole-cell-based sensors for screening anti-allergic compounds. Furthermore, it will address the fabrication of micropillars for the quantification of cellular forces, as well as the development of electroactive biomaterials for applications in regenerative medicine.
