The academic community decided which projects will be implemented on the university's premises in 2024 as part of the Gdańsk Tech Civic Budget funds. One of the winning staff projects is the establishment of 3 outdoor collection stations for small electro-waste on the campus.

Small electro-waste: why is it important to recycle it?

Electro-waste, i.e. used electrical and electronic equipment, is an increasing part of the waste generated by humans. Do we realise how important it is to handle these small but potentially harmful items properly?

Many small electro-waste items contain chemicals such as mercury, lead or cadmium, which are harmful to human health and the environment when disposed of incorrectly. If they are disposed of in the regular bin, they end up in landfills, where they can contaminate soil and groundwater.

It is also important to note that electro-waste contains valuable raw materials, such as metals (copper, aluminium), which can be recovered and reused. By recycling properly, we can reduce waste and maximise the use of natural resources.

Ensuring that it goes to where it can be properly recycled is important for our safety and for the environment.
