Gdańsk University of Technology is the oldest technical university in Poland. It was established in 1899, and the construction of its buildings was completed in 1904. Today, it is one of the largest technical universities in the country, educating nearly 14,000 students and employing over 1,300 academic staff members. The university has a network of more than 300 laboratories, along with 4 research centers and 4 research and development centers that foster the growth of modern technologies and innovation. The activities of nearly 100 student research groups and organizations help nurture the talents of future engineers.

In 2023, the European Commission extended the Gdańsk Tech right to use the prestigious HR Excellence in Research logo for another three years. Gdańsk University of Technology is recognized as an institution that creates one of the best working and development conditions for researchers in Europe.

In 2022, Gdańsk University of Technology joined the ENHANCE consortium of European technical universities, which brings together Europe's leading technical universities.

Together for Pomerania

Since 2020, Gdańsk University of Technology, together with the Medical University of Gdańsk and the University of Gdańsk, has formed the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk to make the best use of the institutions’ resources and potential. The establishment of the Union enables the deepening of long-standing cooperation and the creation of one of the strongest academic centers in Poland, located in the Pomerania region.

Gdańsk University of Technology is the second-best research university in Poland in the ‘Initiative of Excellence - Research University’ competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It is here where inventions used in Poland and around the world are created - communication with the use of eyes, an ecological medicine for osteoporosis, biodegradable materials and many more.
