Doctoral students inaugurated the academic year

The second edition of the PhD Open is over - an event dedicated to the most important aspects of a scientific career and the opportunities offered by joining the university's doctoral schools. At the same time, it is a formal start of the academic year for doctoral students of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The second edition of the PhD Open was held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Gdańsk Tech Aula. The event was attended by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Justyna Kucińska-Lipka, Vice-Rector for Development, Prof. Barbara Wikieł, Vice-Rector for Student Experience, Prof. Robert Jankowski, Director of the Doctoral School, Prof. Ewa Klugmann-Radziemska, Director of the Industrial Doctoral School, mgr Ignacy Rogoń, Chairman of the Gdańsk University of Technology Doctoral Students’ Self-government, as well as the university's academic staff and doctoral students. The event's musical setting was provided by the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology under the baton of Prof. Mariusz Mróz.

The inauguration ceremony of the doctoral schools' academic year started with an speech by Gdańsk Tech Rector Prof. Krzysztof Wilde.

Afterwards, the inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Lucyna Woźniak, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the Medical University of Łódź, who spoke about the internationalization of doctoral schools and academic mobility.

The next part of the event started with a discussion panel on the opportunities offered by studying at the Doctoral School. The discussion featured Prof. Maciej Baginski, the Doctoral School's Deputy Director for Development and Internationalization, dr inż. Monika Wieczerzak, Head of the IDUB Office, mgr Aleksandra Lewandowska, Board Member of the European Council of Doctoral Students and Young Researchers (EURODOC), and dr inż. Karolina Cysewska, from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and a laureate in the SONATA and PRELUDIUM competitions.

Issues related to doctoral schools and conducting scientific research were also mentioned by Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, Vice- Rector for Research, Prof. Robert Jankowski, Director of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk Tech, as well as Dr. Agnieszka Lendzion, Head of the Young Researchers Office, and mgr Aleksandra Ławniczak, from the Gdańsk University of Technology Doctoral Students’ Self-government.

Next, dr inż. Maciej Sienkiewicz from the Faculty of Chemistry and representatives of the Gdańsk Tech Technology Transfer Office: Agnieszka Krawczyk-Kłos (director) and Robert Bajko talked about the commercialization of research results.
