The Historical Collections and Early Printed Books Office of the Gdańsk University of Technology Library stores and provides access to a book collection consisting of:

  • old prints published in the 16th-18th centuries,
  • manuscripts dating back to the 18th-20th centuries,
  • historic book collection, i.e. books and journals published in the years 1801-1945.

Part of the resources is the heritage of the pre-war library of the Technische Hohschule Danzig, the Natural Sciences Society in Gdańsk (Naturforschende Gesellschaft in Danzig) and the book collections of technical school libraries - Navigationschule zu Elsfleth, Königlische Baugewerkschule Görlitz.

The thematic collection developed over many years coincides with the scientific profile of the university and includes a number of publications in the field of: astronomy, biology, botany, physics, philosophy, geography, general history, history of art, medicine, cartography, meteorology, navigation, political science, law, military sciences, zoology and belles-lettres.

The resources are available to research workers, doctoral students and students in the Main Reading Room of the Gdańsk Tech Library (Main Building, ground floor, room 100/3) from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., after making an appointment. Orders must be placed electronically.

Access to old prints and manuscripts takes place in the presence of the librarian of the Historical Collections and Early Printed Books Office, while the historic book collection - collections published in the years 1801-1945, in the presence of the librarian on duty in the Reading Room.

The basic source of information about the book collection is the online library catalogue.

The collections are successively digitized and made available in the Pomeranian Digital Library.
