Gdańsk University of Technology has signed a cooperation agreement with the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences of Kwansei Gakuin University. The agreement will enable scientific exchange between the universities, benefiting students, PhD students and staff members alike.

On behalf of Gdańsk University of Technology, the agreement, known as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed by Prof. PhD, DSc, Eng. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech and Prof. PhD, DSc, Eng. Agata Kot-Wasik, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, while the signatories from the side of the partner university were Prof. Jasutoshi Mori, Rector of Kwansei Gakuin University and Prof. Shinsuke Fujiwara, Dean of the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences.

This agreement will, among other things, allow Gdańsk Tech students to visit the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences that conducts research in many disciplines and offers cutting-edge technical infrastructure and support from world-renowned scientists.

The mobility program is also aimed at Gdańsk Tech PhD students, who will be able to complete a foreign research internship at a partner university during their training at the Doctoral School.

As highlighted by Bartlomiej Cieślik, PhD Eng., the agreement coordinator at Gdańsk Tech, “a research internship in Japan is not only a rare entry in the CV, catching the attention of future employers, but also an experience that defines one's further scientific development.”

The Memorandum with Kwansei Gakuin University is also an opportunity for our academic staff to improve their competence not only in the area of research, but also in teaching students.

Bartlomiej Cieślik, PhD Eng., adds that the technical infrastructure of Kwansei Gakuin University is world-class, and the scientists working there are renowned specialists who are willing to share their experience with Gdańsk Tech staff.

Thanks, among others, to the implementation of foreign internships at the unit managed by Prof. Motohiro Tsuboi, the cooperation with Kwansei Gakuin University was initiated and achieved by the following two researchers: the agreement coordinator Bartłomiej Cieślik, PhD, and Pawel Hać, MEng, from the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk Tech. This initiative would not have been possible without the commitment and support of Prof. Agata Kot-Wasik, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Prof. Piotr Konieczka, Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry. Formal support for the MoU offer is provided by the International Relations Office.

Bartłomiej Cieślik, PhD, and Pawel Hać, MEng, have so far completed their three-month internships abroad at the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, during which they engaged in elemental analysis using modern analytical techniques, such as ICP-MS and XRF. During these activities, the researchers benefited from the support of the scientific team at the host unit, and the results obtained have resulted in joint publications and conference activity.

The internship program offered at Kwansei Gakuin University involves exchanges for students, alumni and academic staff, and while it does not provide funding, it makes the path for arranging such exchanges much easier.
