On September 19, a meeting was held in the Senate Hall between representatives of Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech) and a delegation from Dezhou University (China), during which a new framework cooperation agreement was signed.

The representatives from Dezhou University visited Gdańsk for a three-day visit, the main purpose of which was to sign a cooperation agreement with Gdańsk Tech, including, among other things, the implementation of joint degree programs. The agreement confirms the intention to continue the long-standing cooperation between the two universities.

The September visit of the Dezhou University delegation takes on particular significance in the context of this year's 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and the People's Republic of China.

Enhancing Cooperation

During the September 19 meeting, Gdańsk Tech was represented by: Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech; Christian Jungnickel, PhD, Associate Professor at Gdańsk Tech, Rector's Representative for Cooperation with Scientific and Educational Institutions of Asian Countries; Anna Modrzejewska, Head of the International Relations Office; and Rong-Li from the International Relations Office.

Also attending were representatives of various faculties: Mariusz Deja, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology; Paulina Strąkowska, PhD, Vice Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology; Justyna Płotka-Wasylka, PhD, Vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of Chemistry; Justyna Szostak, PhD, Dean's Representative for Internationalization at the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics; Michał Tomczak, PhD, Vice Dean for Cooperation and Development at the Faculty of Management and Economics; and Prof. Piotr Chrzan from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

The Dezhou University delegation included: Prof. Wu Jun, Chairman of the School Council; Prof. Ju Jiafieng, Director of the Scientific Affairs Office; Du Yali, PhD, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office; Prof. Zhang Jinhui, Dean of the Foreign Language College; and Chen Chao, PhD, Assistant Dean of the Energy Mechanics College.

During the meeting, both parties discussed collaboration in joint degree programs. The Chinese side emphasized its desire to increase the number of Gdańsk Tech academic staff who could teach their students on-site in China.

Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, said: "We see potential for expanding cooperation in this area. A visit to China could be an opportunity for PhD students, who, in addition to teaching, could also establish scientific collaborations. Such a trip would also be an attractive opportunity for our language instructors from the Language Center, who specialize in teaching English for engineers. We should also consider utilizing the potential of other FarU universities in delivering courses for students in China, not only in the field of engineering."

2024: A Year of Collaboration Between Gdańsk Tech and Dezhou University

The September visit by the Dezhou University representatives to Gdańsk Tech was preceded by an online meeting in April attended by Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, then Vice-Rector for Organization and Development, and Prof. Liu Yinfang, Vice President of Dezhou University. The main topic of discussion was the joint degree programs in energy technologies. The event provided an opportunity to summarize the ongoing cooperation and discuss future plans. Even then, the leadership of both universities expressed their willingness to sign a new agreement.

A month later, representatives from Gdańsk Tech visited Dezhou University in China. The delegation included: Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, then Vice-Rector for Organization and Development; Jerzy Głuch, PhD,  from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology; Piotr Musznick, PhD, and Wiktoria Stahl, PhD,  from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

Gdańsk Tech representatives participated in discussion meetings aimed at improving cooperation between the universities and expanding student and teacher exchanges. They also conducted a series of educational sessions within the energy technologies program and visited industrial plants producing, among other things, laboratory equipment, air conditioning systems, and electrical machinery.
