On Monday, January 27, the first seminar of the newly established Gdańsk Tech EkoTech Research Center, created as part of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program, took place at the Fahrenheit Courtyard in the Main Building of Gdańsk Tech. The seminar provided an opportunity to discuss research projects aligned with the profile of the new center's activities, as well as to initiate interdisciplinary collaboration among Gdańsk Tech researchers.

Over 80 presentations discussing scientific and research activities, dozens of specialists exchanging knowledge and experience, as well as numerous declarations of interdisciplinary and multifaceted cooperation between various research teams at Gdańsk Tech – this was the outcome of the 1st Seminar of the EkoTech Research Centre, which took place on Monday, January 27th, at the Fahrenheit Courtyard in the Main Building of Gdańsk Tech.

The EkoTech Centre is one of four new Research Centres at Gdańsk Tech (the others being the BioTechMed Centre, the Centre for Future Materials, and the Centre for Digital Technologies), established following the university’s acquisition of research university status in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s program “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB). Monday’s seminar inaugurated the scientific dimension of the new centres’ activities.

– This is the first of many meetings that will be held within the newly established Research Centres at Gdańsk Tech – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, at the opening of the seminar. – After being granted research university status, our university will now face many new challenges. We need to better promote the work of our scientists, so such a seminar is a very valuable part of these efforts.

Experience Exchange, Interdisciplinary Cooperation

Scientists at the EkoTech Centre will focus on projects and research aimed at shaping sustainable living spaces for humans in response to environmental challenges (climate change, social and demographic transformations, circular economy requirements, etc.). They will also develop solutions to counteract the negative effects of human activity (anthropopressure) and work on the development of modern pro-ecological technologies.

The seminar, organized into blocks corresponding to individual faculties at Gdańsk Tech, featured researchers presenting their past achievements as well as current research and projects they wish to advance within the structure of the new research centre. Speakers from the Faculties of Architecture, Chemistry, Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Electrical and Control Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, as well as Management and Economics, were given five minutes for each presentation. In total, over 80 presentations from Gdańsk Tech research teams were available throughout the full-day seminar, followed by discussions during breaks exploring opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation.

– The meeting was aimed at scientists interested in developing their research and collaboration within the new centre’s structure. The goal was achieved – summarizes Prof. Magdalena Gajewska (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering), Rector’s Plenipotentiary for the EkoTech Centre. – Researchers eagerly exchanged knowledge and experience and were open to participating in subsequent seminars dedicated to specific areas of the centre’s activity. Today’s initiative and the cooperation initiated among scientists will enable the realization of new, innovative projects in the future.
