Prof. Edmund Wittbrodt is the Master of the Chapter of medals of the city of Gdańsk
During the first meeting of the 9-person chapter of these medals, appointed for a four-year term by a resolution of the Gdańsk City Council of September 2021, prof. Edmund Wittbrodt, PhD, DSc, Eng. was elected the Master (chairman) of the Chapter.
The Medals of St. Wojciech and Mściwoj II have been awarded by the city council since 1997 for outstanding services to the city.
The Prince Mściwoj II Medal is awarded for merits in the areas which increase the importance of the city in the country and abroad, in particular for the development of science, culture, education, health care, economy, for undertaking publicly beneficial initiatives. This distinction is awarded for specific achievements that are not limited in time.
In turn, the Medal of St. Wojciech is awarded for merits in the areas increasing the importance of the city in the country and abroad, in particular for the development of science, culture, education, health care, economy, for undertaking publicly beneficial initiatives, mainly in the field of dialogue between representatives of various faiths and religions, as well as reconciliation and cooperation between nations.
Prof. Wittbrodt, former rector of Gdańsk University of Technology (1990-1996) and Minister of National Education (2016-2019), professor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, was awarded the Medal of St. Wojciech in 2013.
The Chapter is composed of: Andrzej Januszajtis - Chancellor of the Chapter, Dorota Kolak, Barbara Szczepuła-Ponikowska, Jan Zarębski, Anna Czekanowicz, Cezary Obracht-Prondzyński, Bogusław Kaczmarek, Edmund Wittbrodt - Chapter Master and Agnieszka Owczarczak - chairperson of the Gdańsk City Council.
