Gdańsk Tech has commenced the implementation of the "Development Incubator" project, which is part of the strategic initiative "Science4Business – Science for Business" carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Lead Partner). Activities under the project will be conducted until December 31, 2028.

This initiative will practically support the research teams of our University in bringing research results closer to the realneeds of business partners and their implementation into industry.

Soon, Gdańsk Tech scientists will be able to submit their innovative technologies with commercial potential to a call, through which it will be possible to obtain funding for conducting industrial research and experimental development works. As part of the funds obtained from the Development Incubator, it will be possible to finance:

  • materials, raw materials, technical services related to prototyping,
  • fixed assets not exceeding 10% of the requested budget,
  • additional research, consulting, legal, marketing services,
  • expert opinions, scientific studies, valuations, analyses, and reports,
  • access to information repositories,
  • legal support services and fulfilling formal requirements related to the creation of spin-off companies,
  • patent protection of R&D results,
  • promotion services for research and technology offerings concerning participation in events and organization of events.

The funding provides a real opportunity to verify the potential of technological solutions under conditions close to industrial and prepare them to meet the requirements of business partners.

Technologies submitted to the initiative will be evaluated by an Investment Committee composed of representatives from business and industry communities as well as representatives from the Gdańsk Tech academic environment. The most promising R&D projects will receive support aimed at efficiently guiding them through the commercialization process and market implementation.

Detailed information on participation rules, evaluation criteria, and call deadlines will be published soon.

Project Objective

The objective of the “Science4Business - Science for Business” project is to increase the efficiency of research organizations’ activities in cooperating with business, including through commercialization of R&D results.

The goal will be achieved by supporting and developing the entire technology transfer process from research organizations to economic circulation, strengthening human resources, and creating an IT tool supporting this process.

Within Task 1 - Development Incubator, the following activities will be carried out:

  • mapping research potential for conducting research projects
in industrial-scientific consortia, as well as conducting expert opinions and R&D contracts from industry,
  • preparing, developing, and creating new technological and research offers in research organizations,
  • creating or managing/developing open databases containing, in particular, technological and research offers,
  • conducting negotiations with potential buyers and concluding research agreements;
  • conducting industrial research and experimental development works
regarding research results with identified commercial potential,
  • obtaining access to knowledge in commercialization, markets, and cooperation
with the economy, and implementing systems for managing intellectual property, commercialization, and cooperation with the economy in research organizations.

Target Group

The project is addressed to research organizations and higher education institutions performing technology transfer tasks, as well as to scientists, researchers, and doctoral candidates involved in research with implementation potential, and broadly understood socio-economic environment, including recipients of innovative solutions and institutions supporting innovation and economic development.

Main Results

The main results of the project will be the outcome of the work of scientific teams focused on increasing the technological and economic readiness levels of selected research outcomes with high commercialization potential.

The planned project results are:

  • implemented R&D projects,
  • commercialized R&D works,
  • patent applications submitted,
  • spin-off or spin-out companies created for technology transfer,
  • license agreements, sales agreements, research service agreements, and other cooperation forms concluded between the scientific community and the economic environment,
  • revenues obtained from the sale or licensing of R&D results developed in research organizations.
