At Gdańsk Tech, consultations on the draft Strategy for the Development of Higher Education until 2035 were held, with the participation of Deputy Minister Maria Mrówczyńska and Prof. Agnieszka Dardzińska-Głębocka, chairwoman of the ministerial team developing the strategy. Representatives of authorities, scientists, PhD students, and students from Pomeranian universities took part in the discussion.

– Jointly developing the strategy is crucial because such a document enables numerous entities connected with higher education to operate in a clearly defined direction. It must be prepared with the utmost care to effectively translate into future actions – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, thanking the ministry for undertaking this task.

Then Maria Mrówczyńska, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, presented the goal of the Higher Education Development Strategy, the assumptions for the strategy's development, strategic areas, and the timeframe for working on the document.

– This is the first such coherent document regarding the development of higher education in Poland. […] This is not the final strategy, it is a draft placed on the table for discussion – emphasized the Deputy Minister.

After the Deputy Minister's presentation, a discussion was held, moderated by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde. Representatives of Pomeranian universities participated, including Gdańsk Tech, Medical University of Gdańsk, University of Gdańsk, Maritime University of Gdynia, Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk, Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia, and Pomeranian University in Słupsk. Deputy Minister Maria Mrówczyńska and Chair of the Team for Developing the Higher Education Development Project Prof. Agnieszka Dardzińska-Głębocka answered the questions.

Previously, consultations were held at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Warsaw School of Economics, and Poznań University of Technology. The ministry announced further meetings.

About the strategy

As informed by the ministry, the draft Higher Education Development Strategy for 2025-2035 is intended to set the development directions for Polish universities over the coming decade. The document focuses on three priority issues: These are: improving the quality of education and strengthening the role of academic teaching, supporting the social responsibility of universities and their openness to cooperation with the environment, as well as building a sustainable, modern academic ecosystem based on innovation, digitalization, and internationalization.

The preparation of the strategy draft was preceded by a diagnosis that analyzed nine thematic areas, such as: the dynamics and structure of the student population, demographic conditions, academic staff, digitalization and educational technologies, types of universities and forms of education, structure of education levels, internationalization, quality of education and learning outcomes, as well as financing and institutional environment.
