On May 28 and 29, Gdynia will become a place for discussions about the future of the region. The "Pomerania Talks Future" conference is an event primarily aimed at young people, who will co-create its course, set the tone for discussions, and analyze their needs in the context of the labor market. Their involvement will determine the direction of the conversation and highlight the areas that are of significant importance to the youth. Gdańsk Tech is also involved in the event as an academic partner.

The conference is organized as part of the "Pomeranian Competences of Tomorrow" project, implemented by the Pomeranian Regional Government and financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan funds.

"Pomerania Speaks Future" will bring education, science, economy, and society into dialogue. Decision-makers and participants in Pomerania’s transformations will jointly discuss regional development and the competences necessary for its further shaping.

The conference is based on the concept of futures literacy, which involves thinking about the future as a space we can influence if we understand upcoming changes and consciously make educational, developmental, and professional decisions.

During the event, participants will identify challenges and design solutions that may affect the region's development, and then present them to decision-makers representing business, cities, and the region. The organizers want to learn the perspective of young people and collectively answer the question: how do we envision the future of Pomerania?

Gdańsk Tech as the academic partner of the event

Gdańsk Tech will be present at the conference as an academic partner. Representatives of the university will participate in panels dedicated to future competences, the role of higher education, and the needs of the regional labor market during the first day of the event on May 28.

PhD Barbara Wikieł, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at Gdańsk Tech, will appear in the panel "Why do young people drop out of studies? What does higher education provide? Do we learn competences throughout life?". The discussion will focus on the changing role of studies and education in a world where competences are developed throughout life. Experts will discuss issues including drop-out phenomena, micro-competences, lifelong learning, and how young people today build their educational and career paths.

The event program also includes the panel "Missing Talents. Who will build the future of Pomerania?", dedicated to competence gaps in the region. PhD Barbara Stepnowska, a lecturer at Gdańsk Tech specializing in entrepreneurship, social innovation, new business models, strategy, Design Thinking, and sustainable management, will participate.

On the second day of the conference, May 29, participants will also be able to visit the Gdańsk Tech booth, prepared by the Career and Alumni Office and the Gdańsk Tech Recruitment Center. It will be an opportunity to discuss the university's offer, development possibilities, and planning educational and career paths.
