More and more Gdańsk Tech scientists among the TOP 2% most influential scientists in the world

84 scientists from Gdańsk Tech were included in the World’s TOP 2% Scientists 2026 ranking, highlighting researchers whose publications are among the most frequently cited worldwide. Gdańsk Tech achieved the third best result in the country in terms of the number of scientists on the citation list for 2025 among all Polish scientific institutions, and the fourth when considering the list of scientists encompassing their overall output. The ranking is compiled annually by Stanford University in cooperation with Elsevier publishing.

The World’s TOP 2% Scientists list is a distinction for leading scientists worldwide, representing approximately 2 percent of all researchers globally. It includes normalized data on citations, the Hirsch index, and a wide range of bibliometric indicators. Scientists are classified into 20 fields and 174 disciplines.

The data used in the ranking come from the Scopus database and are provided by Elsevier. The ranking is based on a composite score (c-score), calculated from six citation metrics. These are:

  • total number of citations (NC)
  • citations of works where the author is single, first, or last author (NCSFL)
  • H-index (H)
  • Hm-index (H-index adjusted for the number of authors)
  • citations of single-author works (NCS)
  • citations of single or first-author works (NCSF).

The names of the distinguished scientists appeared on two lists: the one covering the entire scientific output from the beginning of their career until the end of 2025 (Career-long Impact), and the list including citations exclusively from the year 2025 (Recent Year Impact).

Scientific output – fourth best university in the country

A total of 84 scientists affiliated with Gdańsk Tech were included on the lists; in the previous ranking, there were 71. In the ranking considering the overall scientific output, 63 scientists affiliated with Gdańsk Tech were included, which translates into the fourth best result among all Polish research institutions.
