This is a list of potential open access predatory publishers. Created by American librarian Jeffrey Beall, published in 2012 on the Scholary Open Access blog. The list was intended to document open access publishers who did not perform a true review process by publishing each article as long as the authors paid for open access. Initially, Beall's List became a widely disseminated source of information. It was used by scientists to identify publishing houses that exploited authors. In January 2017, Beall deactivated his blog along with the List due to numerous lawsuits and threats of defamation lawsuits by publishers.
An anonymous group of people took up Beall's work and continued to expand his list. The Predatory Journals website lists publishers and journals deemed predatory by the creators, but the list is no longer updated and the fact that it will not include a given title does not mean anything. It should also be remembered that in the course of his activity, Jeffrey Beall has often been accused of arbitrariness in including individual publishers on the list, often the lack of experience in publishing a journal can be confused with unfair practices. Therefore, the fact that the journal is on this type of list should give the author a red warning light, but in the final decision to send an article there, he should use his own judgment and, in case of doubt, ask the Library for help.
