Gdańsk University of Technology Honored with Green University of the Year Award
The award was accepted by the Gdańsk Tech Vice-Rector for Development, Professor Justyna Kucińska-Lipka.
"Our university received the Green University of the Year statuette for its outstanding commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. The Gdańsk University of Technology community embraces the UN Sustainable Development Goals as its own and actively participates in the global effort to implement them," emphasized Prof. Justyna Kucińska-Lipka.
Gdańsk Tech was recognized as part of the Triple E Awards competition. ACEEU emphasizes that the purpose of the Green University of the Year award is to honor a university that serves as a model in implementing good practices in resource planning, operations, research, and education, while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among staff and students. The award acknowledges institutions that promote eco-friendly initiatives.
ACEEU is an organization founded in 2016 that specializes in recognizing and supporting the entrepreneurial and engaged potential of universities at both the institutional and faculty levels. Gdańsk Tech holds ACEEU accreditation. More information is available [here].
Participation in the Triple E Awards and the ACEEU Forum was coordinated by the Center for Strategic Analysis.
What do we do?
- We implement the Strategy for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Declaration of Social Responsibility of Universities at Gdańsk University of Technology. The goal is to create an open, shared, and inspiring space—one that brings about real, positive social, economic, and environmental change.The strategy was developed through workshops involving representatives of academic and administrative staff, students, and PhD candidates. As a result, it reflects the diverse perspectives and needs of the university community.
- The Gdańsk Tech Climate Plan focuses on efficient campus management, sustainable use of natural resources and energy, and promoting environmentally friendly commuting to the university.
- In 2023, Gdańsk Tech joined the Race to Zero campaign, a global initiative supporting organizations, universities, and cities in taking climate action through reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices.
- In 2024, the university opened the Eco-Innovation Center—one of the most modern “green” facilities in this part of Europe. Its mission is to conduct innovative research and develop advanced technologies that support sustainable development, environmental protection, and the reduction of human impact on the climate.
- The university organizes the Sustainable Development Week every year. It is an opportunity to expand knowledge, engage in important topics, and connect with people actively working for sustainable development and social responsibility.
Gdańsk University of Technology’s commitment to sustainable development is reflected in its high rankings in prestigious international listings.
In 2024, the university was recognized as the most eco-friendly university in Poland according to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, placing 1st in the country, 57th in Europe, and 199th globally.
In 2025, Gdańsk Tech ranked in the 301–400 range in the global THE Impact Rankings, which assess implementation of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. It shared the highest position among Polish universities with the University of Gdańsk.
