First place in Poland and a rise in the global ranking for Gdańsk University of Technology in UI GreenMetric 2025 | Gdańsk University of Technology

Gdańsk University of Technology has participated in the ranking since 2018. In the 2025 edition, the university achieved the best result in its history, placing 130th in the world (up from 199th in 2024), 38th in Europe, and 1st in Poland. Previously, the university’s highest position was 137th in 2021; however, at that time only 956 institutions were ranked, while in 2025 the number reached 1,745.

The assessment covers areas such as campus infrastructure, energy management, water resources, waste management, transportation, as well as educational offerings and research activities related to environmental protection. The scope of the ranking has been steadily growing — in the first edition in 2010, 95 universities were evaluated, while in 2025 the number increased to 1,745 (compared to 1,477 in 2024).

The UI GreenMetric ranking score is based on six categories with the following weights:

• Infrastructure – 15%

• Energy and Climate Change – 21%

• Waste Management – 18%

• Transportation – 18%

• Water Management – 10%

• Education and Research – 18%

In 2025, Gdańsk University of Technology achieved its highest score in Education and Research, earning 99.3% of the possible points. Very high results were also recorded in Waste Management and Transportation, with 91.7% each. These achievements confirm the university’s strong commitment to sustainable development and its consistent implementation of pro-environmental solutions across the campus and within teaching and research activities.

At the top of the UI GreenMetric 2025 ranking were once again three European universities:

1. Wageningen University & Research (Netherlands),

2. University College Cork (Ireland),

3. Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom).
