Health insurance

Health insurance is compulsory in Poland. Students from other countries coming to Poland can decide if they want to have private health insurance (for at least 30 thousand euros) or get insurance from NFZ (National Health Fund).
In case ofUE citizens it is enough to have European Health Insurance Card.

For students with a Polish Charter

Immediately upon arrival at Gdansk University of Technology (at the beginning of the academic year), students with a Polish Charter should go to the Dean's Office at their faculty in order to sign a form, whereby Gdansk University of Technology will register them for health insurance and will pay the insurance contributions on their behalf.

For students who do not hold a Polish Charter

For the students who do not have a Polish Charter the best solution is to obtain the voluntary health insurance from NFZ. It provides you with comprehensive medical treatment in Poland - including hospitalization (if need be) - and reimbursement of prescriptions and some medicines. The insured person is obliged to pay a monthly contribution which at the moment costs PLN 55,80.

To obtain voluntary health insurance from NFZ you need to:

1. Visit the office of National Health Fund (NFZ) in Gdańsk (Podwale Staromiejskie 69) to sign an insurance contract.
Documents you must bring with you:
- passport
- a student status confirmation (issued by the Dean's Office)
Additionally you can take a student identity card (ELS) with you.

2. Go to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) branch in Gdańsk (Chlebnicka 3/8 or Tuwima 9) in order to register your NFZ contract in the system.
Documents you need to have with you:
- passport
- valid contract with NFZ
- completed and signed ZUS ZZA form
 - the ZUS inspector can help you to fill it in during the meeting.
After registration in the system you will get an individual bank account number to which you need to pay health insurance contribution every month.

Few days after the meeting in ZUS you can go to any NFZ health center and choose your family doctor. We recommend Family Medical Center (Centrum Medycyny Rodzinnej) in Dębinki 7 in Gdańsk which is very close to our campus (and has English speaking staff).

NOTE! If you want to resign from NFZ insurance, you need to go to NFZ office once again and sign agreement termination declaration and - along with that - you have to deregister from ZUS. Otherwise you they will continue to charge you for the insurance (even if you leave Poland).
