The team of employees of the Department of Multimedia Systems at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of GUT was among the winners of the Awards of the Minister of Education and Science.

The minister awarded the team of scientists from FETI for significant achievements in scientific and implementation activities. The group included: prof. Andrzej Czyżewski, PhD, DSc Piotr Szczuko, GUT professor, PhD Michał Lech, PhD Maciej Szczodrak and PhD Piotr Hoffmann.

The awarded achievement is related to the IDENT project (Multimodal Biometric System of Bank Customer Identity Verification) implemented earlier as part of the Applied Research Program of the National Center for Research and Development. As a result of the project, in 60 branches of PKO Bank Polski, 100 multimodal biometric stations developed at Gdańsk University of Technology, were implemented for research involving over 10,000 people. The results of these studies were then published. The social effect of this achievement is the initiation of work on the implementation of biometric technologies in the largest Polish bank, which is still ongoing, also with the participation of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The awards of the Minister of Education and Science are awarded in five categories - for significant achievements in the field of research, teaching, implementation and overall achievements. In 2020, a total of 124 applications for awards were submitted to the ministry. Ultimately, the minister decided to award 74 prizes (57 individual and 17 team prizes). The winners were announced on the Polish Science Day.
