The call for applications for the BioLab 2022-2023 program

The call for applications for the BioLab 2022-2023 program is underway. It is  the one-year intership program for students of biological sciences ( biology, biotechnology, chemistry, physic etc) in the United States.

BioLAB 2022-2023 is a program administered by the Polish-US Fulbright Comission which offers one-year traineeships for students of biomedical sciences (such as: biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, pharmacy, etc.) in four following American scientific institutions:

1. University of Virginia,

2. The University of Chicago,

3. OMRF - Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation,

4. University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Participation in the program includes:

  1. traineeship in a research laboratory, lasting for a period of 11-12 months, which provides the opportunity to take part in important research projects under the supervision of experienced scientists, and in some cases also the use of research results in candidate’s for a master's/doctoral thesis,
  2. a salary, which is paid every 2 or 3 weeks, and the amount ranges from $ 28,000 to $ 33,000 per year depending on the place of the traineeship (the scholarship is subject to income tax),
  3. medical care provided by the host institution.

Before leaving for the traineeship, the participants will be properly prepared in the form of an information meeting, during which the procedures related to the trip and the realities of life in the USA will be presented and discussed in detail. During the meeting, graduates of the program will describe their experience and share tips on how to prepare yourself for a trip. Throughout the traineeship, the participants will be looked after by the program coordinator in the host institution.

How to apply 

To apply for the BioLAB 2022-2023 Program, candidates have to meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet formal requirements of a F-1 or J-1 visa (the cost of issuing the visa is covered by the grantee),
  2. Be enrolled in a graduate program where their major field of study is life sciences and/or medical fields of study (chemistry, biology, biotechnology, medicine, physics, pharmacy, biochemistry etc.),
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of English proficiency at the B2 level or higher,
  4. Hold a high grade point average from the course of their studies (4.0 or above is recommended),
  5. At the time of the interview (which is scheduled for March 2022) candidates must be students of master's or doctoral studies at a Polish university or research unit and will maintain the active status of a student during the whole traineeship.

Applications 

Applications can be submitted in electronic form, to which the following documents should be attached as PDF files (all documents should be prepared in English):

1. CV - curriculum vitae with a list of academic and non-academic achievements,

2. transcript - a list of marks from the entire course of studies with the calculated average values for each stage of study (separate bachelor / engineer studies, separate master's and doctoral studies - if applicable),

3. personal statement - cover letter,

4. consent of the university - consent of the home university, signed by the Dean of the Faculty of the home institution and the candidate's thesis supervisor,

5. recommendation letter - two letters of recommendation from people with at least PhD.

The call for applications for travel in the academic year 2022/23 lasts until February 1, 2022, 23:59.
