Neither the weather nor the ‘truant day’ prevented the attendance during the national open day at Gdańsk University of Technology. Pupils from secondary schools from Pomerania and outside our voivodeship welcomed the calendar spring together. They could not only learn about Gdańsk Tech’s educational offer, but also take part in lectures, shows, workshops and field games.

From 9 a.m. on the square in front of the Main Building, a tent city and representatives of each of the eight faculties, as well as the Admission Office, the Academic Sports Center, the Language Center, the Center for Innovative Education, the Mathematics Center and the International Relations Office were waiting for the participants.

Daniel Fahrenheit’s and Jan Hewelius’ courtyards were taken over on that particular day by FOKA - the Forum of Academic Organizations and Circles. Students presented their initiatives and told their younger colleagues about the opportunities offered by participating in scientific clubs during their studies. There were spectacular shows with liquid nitrogen, 3D printing and the latest racing car built by students.

There were guided tours around the historic part of the campus, and those interested could take part in a field game with prizes, prepared by the Gdańsk Tech Students’ Government.

In the Auditorium in the Main Building, scientists from all faculties prepared short and very interesting lectures for young people on various fields of science: from smart cities, through affective computing, to the applications of fuel cells.

Faculty and online events

In addition to university-wide events, each of the eight faculties awaited pupils with a very diverse offer prepared by scientists and students. Young people had the opportunity to visit laboratories, meet academic teachers, obtain information about the specificity of studies in a given field and talk to students.

– I came to the open day because I want to study at Gdańsk University of Technology. I am interested in construction and architecture, says Ania Targoszek, a high school pupil from Sopot. – I'm still hesitating between these fields of study and I hope that this event will allow me to make a final decision, especially since there is an additional exam for architecture that I need to prepare for.

There were also offers for people who could not be on campus that day. All lectures were broadcast on the university YouTube channel, and, after prior registration, it was possible to take part in online events planned by the faculties in the afternoon.

Teachers who visited Gdańsk University of Technology with their pupils were invited to workshop on the use of artificial intelligence at school, led by prof. Joanna Mytnik from the Center for Innovative Education. They could also benefit from methodological and tool consultations.

In addition to all the scientific attractions, pupils took photos in the photo booth and created a unique mosaic image, danced to music on the square in front of the main building, visited the food trucks and explored the campus on their own.

We would like to thank the participants for their numerous attendance and all the organizers for all the effort they put into preparing this event. Welcome to our photo gallery.
