Raises for employees of Gdańsk University of Technology

increase
On Monday, 29 April 2024, the bursar's office of Gdańsk University of Technology transferred the sums of pay rises to the accounts of employees of Gdańsk University of Technology.

As a result of arrangements between the university authorities and representatives of trade unions operating at Gdańsk University of Technology, a compromise was reached regarding the method of dividing the ministerial budget for raises for employees of public universities, which was sent to Gdańsk University of Technology (approximately PLN 91 million). Ultimately, the proposal of the university authorities was accepted by one of the two trade unions - i.e. the Polish Teachers' Union (not NSZZ "Solidarność") -  due to the expiry of the 30-day period for developing a common position of both unions. It consisted in a pro-development solution for both the employees and the university, i.e.:

  • In the group of academic teachers (AT), the initial value was a 15% obligatory raise and a 15% incentive increase (the amount of the second part was determined by unit heads) - the potential initial amount of the increase in this group is 30%.
  • In the group of non-academic employees (NAE), the initial value was a 10% obligatory raise and a 10% incentive increase (here, too, any adjustments depended on the decisions of unit heads) - the potential initial amount was 20%.

Finally, after the Gdańsk Tech bursary summary of the decisions of all heads of units at GUT, the division is as follows:

  • AT – 86% of employees in this group received a base salary increase of at least 30%.
  • NAE – approximately 90% of employees in this group received at least 20%.
  • If a given employee is not granted an incentive increase in the starting amount (15% AT and 10% NAE), the head of the unit is obliged to inform the given person about this fact and justify their decision.
  • The pay scale adopted by the parties included the entire amount transferred to Gdańsk Tech by the ministry.

Salaries taking into account the new pay scale should be credited to employees' accounts no later than Tuesday, 30 April 2024, and each employee was paid a compensation from January 1, 2024 via a separate transfer:

  • AT - compensation covers four months (January - April)
  • NAE - the compensation covers three months (January - March), and the April salary will be increased by the amount of the raise

It is worth mentioning here that the ministry, in its guidelines, suggested that the authorities of public universities calculate increases on basic salaries as of 31 December 2022, while at Gdańsk University of Technology they were calculated on salaries as of 31 December 2022, i.e. higher than a year earlier (taking into account, among others, ministerial raises from 2023), which is more favorable for Gdańsk Tech employees.
