According to the summary of recruitment results for the academic year 2024/2025, published in November by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, this year's recruitment for Gdańsk University of Technology received over 32.7 thousand applications from candidates. Only the University of Warsaw (over 46.4 thousand) and the Jagiellonian University (34.5 thousand) recorded more applications. At the same time, there are 36.3 thousand students studying at the University of Warsaw (according to data from the POL-on system for 2023), 33.4 thousand at the Jagiellonian University, and only 14.2 thousand students at Gdańsk University of Technology.

Thus, Gdańsk University of Technology:

  • overtook all technical universities in terms of the number of applications from candidates for full-time studies
  • found itself next to the two largest universities in the country.

This time, the ministerial ranking did not take into account the position of the university in terms of the number of candidates per place. According to this criterion, Gdańsk Tech took first place among public universities in Poland last year. On average, 7 people applied for one place in first-cycle studies at Gdańsk Tech for the academic year 2024/2025. However, it should be noted that the methods of conducting the recruitment process at universities differ.

– We are very happy that future engineers choose Gdańsk University of Technology. Third place among all universities and first among technical universities most often chosen by candidates for studies is a huge commitment for us, but also a confirmation of the high standards of education at our university. We are constantly developing the educational offer so that it is attractive for young people who want to deepen their knowledge, acquire new skills, but also develop their own passions, and at the same time we respond to market needs in this area. We place great emphasis on new solutions supporting this process, such as didactic innovations –  says Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.

Most popular fields of study

The most popular fields of study, in terms of the number of applications, were:

  • Computer science

  • Civil engineering

Pomerania comes fourth in the country

According to data from the ministry, in the academic year 2024/2025, over 462.3 thousand people were accepted at universities supervised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, including over 347.3 for first-cycle studies and uniform master's studies. Pomeranian universities received a total of over 71.2 thousand applications from candidates, which is the fourth result in the country. Universities accepted 5 percent more students than last year.
