After many years of discussion, a site has finally been selected for the construction of the new seat of the Baltic Opera. Following a comprehensive analysis, the Economic Advisory Team to the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology recommended Plac Zebrań Ludowych (People's Meeting Square) as the optimal location. A letter of intent concerning the construction of the new opera house was signed by Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, and Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk.

On Monday, July 14, a meeting of the Social Committee for the Support of the Construction of the Metropolitan Baltic Opera was held. During the meeting, the results of the expert team's work were presented. Based on urban planning documents, technical conditions, opinions from the Pomeranian Regional Heritage Conservator, and on-site assessments, the team unanimously recommended Plac Zebrań Ludowych as the most suitable site for the project.

Economics, Economic Analytics, and Engineering Management appeared to be the most popular fields of study at Gdańsk University of Technology. The primary admission round for first-cycle (undergraduate) studies for the academic year 2025/2026 has concluded. On average, 6.6 candidates competed for each available place, with the total number of applications reaching nearly 30,000.

Applicants for full-time and part-time first-cycle programmes at Gdańsk Tech could choose from 45 degree programmes offered by eight faculties. The admissions offer included two new interdisciplinary programmes introduced in response to current labour market demands: Cosmetic Technologies, a programme combining chemistry, biology, and engineering with innovations in the cosmetics industry; and Engineering Management, the international version of the previously offered Zarządzanie Inżynierskie.

Modern Technologies on Board the Dar Pomorza Thanks to CI TASK

Dar Pomorza
The museum ship Dar Pomorza, moored at the quay in Gdynia, has been equipped with modern fibre-optic infrastructure, thanks to a project carried out by the TASK Computer Centre of Gdańsk University of Technology. This iconic sailing vessel, permanently docked at the extension of Kościuszko Square in Gdynia, is one of the most recognizable ships in Poland. The project was commissioned by the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.

The implementation of the project required the use of non-standard engineering solutions due to the specific nature of the vessel and the marine environment. The fibre-optic installation was designed to allow for easy and safe disconnection of the infrastructure in the event that the vessel needs to be moved. The components and materials used ensure high resistance to moisture, salinity, and variable weather conditions, thus guaranteeing long-term and reliable performance of the connection in a maritime setting.
