Teaching 5.0: Recruitment for conference and study visit funding completed

We would like to inform you that the recruitment process under the Teaching 5.0 project for funding PhD students’ participation in conferences and study visits has been completed.

As a result of the recruitment process, funding was awarded for participation in 8 conferences (3 international and 5 domestic) and 2 study visits (1 abroad and 1 in Poland).
Securing funding to support research trips for PhD students is a direct result of the workshops conducted by the Young Researchers Office in April 2025 and the needs of the academic community identified during these sessions.

We would also like to inform you that the next recruitment round will open on 1 March 2027 and run until 31 July 2027.

New materials, drives and protein-DNA models

One hundred young researchers from across Poland have been selected to take part in the training and mentoring phase of the LIDER UP programme. A total of 708 proposal forms were submitted for the call, and 448 proposals received a positive substantive assessment. Among the highest-ranked candidates were Adam Olszewski, PhD, Eng., from the Faculty of Chemistry, and Dmytro Kondratenko, PhD, Eng., from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

Safer composites and a new drive system 

Adam Olszewski, PhD, Eng., was selected for the scheme with his project ‘FreeFromFlame: formaldehyde-free wood-polymer composites with enhanced fire resistance’. His proposal was ranked 58th. 

Research stay in Sweden. Kareem Ayyad’s experience

Kareem Ayyad, a PhD student and staff member of the Young Researchers Office at Gdańsk University of Technology, completed a research stay at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. In this interview, he talks about his experience, the challenges he faced and his academic development. Would he recommend a similar research stay to other PhD students?

What made you choose Sweden and Chalmers University of Technology for your research stay?

I chose Sweden and Chalmers because the research environment was closely related to my PhD topic, particularly flood risk, stormwater management and urban planning. Before leaving, I hoped to work in an international environment, exchange ideas with other researchers and gain a broader perspective on my own research. Overall, the stay met these expectations and proved to be a very valuable academic experience.

A Gdańsk Tech researcher co-authoring an article published in the prestigious JACS journal

dr inż Karolina Górnicka
Karolina Górnicka, PhD, Eng., from the Gdańsk University of Technology took part in research on a new family of materials whose magnetic and electronic properties can be controlled by carefully selecting their chemical composition. The findings of the international team of researchers were published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

The article ‘Synergistic Doping and Stabilisation of Magnetically Tunable LnTi₃(Sb,Sn)₄ (Ln: Ce–Gd) Kagome Metals’ was published on 23 July 2026 in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), one of the most highly regarded scientific journals in the fields of chemistry and materials science.

ENHANCE Joint Call for Blended Intensive Programmes 2027 Now Open

ENHANCE is launching its second joint Call for Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), building on the success of the first alliance-wide call in early 2026. Following that successful premiere, the Alliance is once again coordinating the call across all partner universities, reflecting ENHANCE's shared commitment to making the design and delivery of joint learning opportunities simpler and more effective.

Coordinating the call at alliance level allows academic staff to prepare and run their programmes more smoothly, while giving learners a consistent set of application and mobility frames to rely on throughout the academic year. More simple, more effective.

The call invites academic staff to develop programmes that foster interdisciplinary and challenge-driven learning, contributing to ENHANCE's vision of a European Education Without Barriers and its mission to drive societal transformation through education.
