On the 24th of July 2019, PhD Eng. Rafał Gawin, a graduate of the Gdańsk University of Technology and a former PhD student of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, was appointed President of the Energy Regulatory Office. The nomination on behalf of the Prime Minister was presented by Krzysztof Tchórzewski, Minister of Energy.

Rafał Gawin is a long-term employee of the Energy Regulatory Office, where he started working in 2004, shortly after completing his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering. Before taking up the position of the President of the Energy Regulatory Office, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Department for Markets and Consumer Affairs Development.

The new President of the Energy Regulatory Office was appointed in a competition for a five-year term of office. He is the sixth President of the Energy Regulatory Office in the history of this central office, which is a government administration body established under the Energy Law Act to carry out tasks related to the regulation of fuel and energy management and to promote competition.

Dr. Rafał Gawin graduated from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering with a Master's degree in 1999. He continued his education as a PhD student at his home faculty, where in 2004 he defended his PhD thesis entitled Analysis of the impact of consumer comfort on the choice of energy supply systems. The thesis was supervised by Prof. D.Sc. Eng. Waldemar Kamrat.
