Standard admission (an open competition for all candidates) takes place once a year, usually in spring. Places are allocated from a pool defined by the Rector, and doctoral scholarships are financed from the Doctoral School's subsidy.
Important: Two separate enrolments paths
Under standard admission, two separate enrolments are launched in the University's admission system. Which one you choose depends on where you obtained your education (where you completed your second-cycle or long-cycle (uniform master's degree) studies):
-
enrolment for candidates with Master’s degree (second-cycle or long-cycle) obtained in Poland
-
enrolment for candidates with Master’s degree (second-cycle or long-cycle) obtained abroad
Pay special attention to this during registration: If the wrong enrolment path is selected, the application will have to be returned for correction. This could mean missing deadlines and losing the opportunity to participate in the admissions process.
What does the admission cycle look like?
The process of preparing for the admission of new doctoral students is complex and begins long before the admission system is launched. The admission cycle follows the steps below:
-
Autumn/Winter (year preceding admission) The University Senate adopts a resolution on the Admission Rules for the next academic year. This document is published well in advance (minimum 5 months before admission).
-
What does this mean for you? In this document, you will find the list of disciplines, evaluation criteria, and the list of accepted language certificates.
-
-
Beginning of the year (January - March) We conduct the recruitment of prospective supervisors – they report their readiness to supervise new doctoral students and propose research topics.
-
What does this mean for you? This is when you await the publication of the list of supervisors, which is crucial for your first step in the admission process.
-
-
Spring (March - April) The Rector issues the Admission Announcement.
-
What does this mean for you? At this moment, you will learn about the admission limits (number of places) for individual disciplines and the detailed list of required application documents. Detailed schedules for both recruitment paths are also published.
-
Important: Usually, about a month before the start of admission, we publish the list of prospective supervisors. This is when you should familiarize yourself with their achievements and initiate contact to discuss the concept of the doctoral thesis.
-
-
Opening of enrolments (April - May) We launch the University's admission system (eRecruitment).
-
What does this mean for you? Check the admission schedule assigned to your recruitment path (for a Polish or foreign diploma) carefully. Submitting an application after the deadline indicated will not be possible – the system closes automatically.
-
Important: Each enrolment path follows a separate schedule. While both enrolments typically run in parallel in the spring (late April/early May), the specific opening and closing dates for the system may vary depending on the enrolment path.
-
Candidate preparation
Admission requires gathering many documents and making prior arrangements. Don't leave it until the last minute!
-
Follow the news: Information about the launch of individual stages (including the publication of the list of supervisors) appears on our website well in advance.
-
Find a supervisor: This is a mandatory condition to proceed with admission. Without agreeing on the research topics and obtaining a declaration from the prospective supervisor, you will not be able to submit an application.
-
Gather documents: Familiarize yourself with the list of required documents appropriate for your enrolment and prepare them well in advance.
Starting your PhD training
The academic year and PhD training at the Doctoral School begin on October 1st. Candidates admitted to the School should be present on the University premises at that time (in the case of foreigners, certain exceptions to this rule are allowed, detailed in the admission schedule).
