Green Earth
In the latest edition of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 1st among Polish universities. It is a ranking that examines the involvement of universities in issues related to the natural environment, primarily in the field of infrastructure, care for the climate and environment, transport, water and electricity consumption, and waste management.

Gdańsk Tech has not only become a leader among Polish universities, but also took a high position on a global scale - out of 1050 universities from 85 countries, it was ranked 137th.

The authors of the ranking aim to gain a picture of how a university is responding to or tackling sustainability issues through its policies, actions and communications. The leaders of the ranking this year were Wageningen University (Kingdom of the Netherlands) and two British universities from Nottingham: Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham.

– Gdańsk University of Technology achieved the highest scores in the country in terms of infrastructure, energy, transport, education and research. It is an appreciation of such pro-environmental activities of the university as the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, green projects submitted as part of the Participatory Budget or investments such as the Eco-Innovation Center – says prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, vice-rector for organization and development. – It is also worth noting that the Climate Plan has been created and is being implemented at Gdańsk University of Technology. It defines the goals and activities of the university related to environmental protection and broadly understood ecology.

The high score of Gdańsk University of Technology is the result of many different activities: organizational, scientific, didactic, but also social ones.

–Since the ranking takes into account such criteria as the involvement of student organizations or the number of electric vehicles used by employees, it should be pointed out that our position in the "Green Metric" is the result of the involvement of the entire university community in environmental and sustainable development issues – emphasizes Rector Mikielewicz.
