Zuzanna Klawikowska, a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, and currently a PhD student, received the Dean Ludwik Referowski’s award. This award, in the amount of PLN 50,000, is granted to outstanding graduates of the faculty for their scientific or academic achievements and social activity.

Zuzanna Klawikowska received the highest marks for her master's thesis, and can also boast of the best academic results among the students of the faculty. The award is the culmination of five years of work in first and second cycle studies, as well as in the field of social activity.

Engineering thesis of the young scientist, entitled "The use of decision translation methods to develop defense strategies against hostile attacks on deep neural networks" was awarded in the Young Innovative 2020 competition. Her master's thesis "Synthesis of a neural system for detection and analysis of brain lesions" won the "FECE Diploma of the Year" distinction.

“My research interests oscillate around artificial intelligence tools, neural networks and decision support systems,” says Zuzanna Klawikowska. During my engineering studies, I dealt mainly with the issues of neural networks, while during my master's studies I focused on a more specific problem, which is the use of these networks in medicine. On the basis of research - images of the brain taken with a tomograph, I taught artificial intelligence to recognize and determine the types of lesions.

Currently, under the guidance of prof. Michał Grochowski, the PhD student is conducting research related to the optimization of wastewater treatment processes.

– I am working on an algorithm to optimally control the wastewater treatment process. In addition, this algorithm is to enable the detection of anomalies, and then select the appropriate process control strategy to minimize their harmful effects as soon as possible - says the researcher.

Candidates for the Dean Ludwik Referowski’s award are also assessed in terms of social commitment. Zuzanna Klawikowska is involved in ecological activities as well. Together with other young scientists from FECE, she took part in a scientific project entitled "Waste detection in Pomerania", which concerned the detection of garbage in the natural environment based on films and photos. In her free time, she also worked as a volunteer at a foundation that takes care of stray cats.
