On 2 March, Gdańsk University of Technology had the honor to host a delegation from the National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech) – one of the leading technical universities of world renown. The representatives of the Taiwanese university were its President - Prof Sea-Fue Wang, Vice President – Distinguished Prof Thomas Chung-Kuang Yang, Dean of the Research and Development Office – Distinguished Prof Ho-Chiao Chuang, Ph.D. (ME), and Dean of the Office of International Affairs – Prof Tun Wen Pai.

During the meeting with Gdańks Tech authorities - Rector Prof Krzysztof Wilde, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research Prof Sławomir Milewski, and Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Innovation Prof Janusz Nieznański, the universities entered the Joint Research Protocol of Academic Collaboration agreement that paves the way toward joint research grants in materials engineering, environmental protection, eco-energy and eco-construction, electrical engineering, mechatronics, information technology, medical technology & biotechnology. Under the signed agreement, scientists from both institutions are able to apply for grants to conduct joint scientific research. The agreement was signed for five years, subject to extension.

We are glad that the agreement with Taipei Tech is not a general memorandum of understanding. It is a declaration of mutual commitment to joint research projects in the main scientific areas common for both universities. – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech.

Joint research was not the only topic of the meeting agenda. Taipei Tech and Gdańsk Tech authorities, supported by Prof Christian Jungnickel, Rector's Proxy for cooperation with Asian research and teaching institutions, alongside representatives of the Faculty of Chemistry, Applied Physics and Mathematics, Electronics, Telecommunication and Informatics, Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, and the International Relations Office, discussed the means and scope of the educational collaboration.

Our guests visited the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Informatics, which has collaborated with Taipei Tech for many years. Joint research projects of Taipei Tech, Prof Piotr Jasiński from the Laboratory of Functional Materials, and scientists from the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics, Prof Beata Bochentyn and Prof Jakub Karczewski, have already led to several scientific papers and the conclusion of this interinstitutional agreement. The meeting concluded at the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics, where our guests got acquainted with the research scope, educational offer, and laboratories of the Nanotechnology Center A.

The National Taipei University of Technology was founded in 1912. It is one of the leading public universities in Taiwan, with 13 thousand students and 19 faculties. It is also a cooperation center bridging science, industry, and business. Around 10% of the chief executive officers and board members employed in companies in Taiwan are graduates of Taipei Tech, and the university supports 25 new start-ups each year.
