The authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology met with Deputy Minister for Digital Affairs Dariusz Standerski. They discussed plans to launch a quantum computer with enormous computing power. This will provide the university with many completely new opportunities. The meeting, as part of the series "Key development challenges of Pomerania", brought together representatives of the parliament, industry, scientists, and experts in various fields. It was organized by "Employers of Pomerania" and Gdańsk University of Technology.

- Gdańsk University of Technology did a very good job and it is ready for a technological revolution. Centers such as the Gdańsk Kraken will be of key importance for the Polish economy, which is why it is so important to expand computing power using a quantum computer. We are making every effort to ensure that new quantum computers are created in the most important academic, scientific and economic centers, including here in Gdańsk - emphasized Deputy Minister Dariusz Standerski.

- Our strategic goal is to be at the center of scientific and economic development, to be where the technologies of the future are created, we want to participate in these processes. First of all, money is needed, which is why we are meeting today and signaling full readiness, but the development of human competences is also very important for our university, we cannot forget about them - emphasized Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.

- We have developed seven key development challenges for the Pomeranian Voivodeship, which the government has become interested in. We have received responses from all ministries, where ministers indicated possibilities of cooperation. Now we want to discuss the details, hence the visit of the Minister - said Zbigniew Canowiecki, PhD, president of "Employers of Pomerania".

By launching a quantum computer, the university wants to focus on the medical area. We are talking about personalized treatment, adjusted to the patient, for example in oncology, where it would be possible to determine the characteristics of the tumor using dedicated tests. Another area is energy. With a quantum computer, the University of Technology could develop more complex models of energy management.

The first quantum computer may be launched within two years.
