FarU VR goggles for the MUG, Gdańsk Tech and the UG
As part of the project, the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk received six pairs of VR goggles with controllers, accessories and carrying cases, as well as equipment necessary for safe and comfortable work: barrier posts with tape, a disinfection stand and a fabric partition.
“Immersive technologies enable the demonstration of phenomena that cannot be experienced in the traditional way, which makes it easier to understand and memorise them. As a Union, we are committed to supporting innovative forms of education and providing tools that enable universities to fully exploit the potential of new technologies. Academic staff and students from the universities associated with the Union can now use VR goggles for educational purposes, both during classes and additional activities, e.g. within student organisations,” emphasised Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk.
The Meta Quest 3 VR goggles include two applications that have been developed in recent months thanks to cooperation with Aramco Europe and the expert support of academic staff from the Gdańsk University of Technology and teachers from three schools in Gdańsk : Paweł Adamowicz Bilingual Academic High School, the Defenders of the Polish Post Office Communications School Complex, and D. Fahrenheit Primary School No. 88 in Gdańsk.
The first application introduces the subject of crude oil – its formation, processing stages and applications. The second one concerns wind energy, showing how electricity is generated, how a turbine works and how different conditions affect its efficiency.
Those interested in borrowing goggles can contact their faculty coordinators, who have been trained in the use of VR technology and proprietary applications:

VR classes for schools
On 26 November this year, the Fahrenheit Universities invited primary and secondary school pupils from the Pomeranian Voivodeship to Hevelianum to be the first to familiarise themselves with FarU applications. The participants, nearly 120 people, could choose between two versions of the audio guide – one prepared for younger and one for older audiences – which allowed the narration and content level to be tailored to their age. During the classes, topics such as the generation of energy from wind, the role of crude oil in the production of everyday items, the construction of a wind turbine, and the factors affecting its operation and efficiency were discussed.
Additional attractions included a specially prepared ‘island’ with specimens of invertebrates and plants, where a lottery for active listeners was held, and workshops using miniature cars powered by hydrogen generated from solar energy. These activities accompanied students waiting for their turn to use VR goggles and served as an engaging supplement to the main programme. What is more, young people could also visit the permanent exhibition ‘With Energy!’ free of charge, which was made possible thanks to the cooperation between FarU and Hevelianum.
