[Update 03.06] Report on research progress / PhD training 2025/2026

[Update 03.06] Doctoral students are required to submit an Individual Research Plan (IRP) within 12 months of starting their PhD training. The deadline provided in the schedule is organizational – missing it carries no consequences as long as the IRP is submitted within the 12-month timeframe. All other documents must be submitted strictly according to the schedule.

RWTH Aachen University invites doctoral candidates and early-career researchers to submit proposals for the interdisciplinary doctoral colloquium Enhancing Umbau: Interdisciplinary Practices and Processes, which will take place on 15–16 October 2026 in Aachen, Germany. The proposal deadline is 10 July 2026.

The colloquium focuses on Umbau — the adaptation, transformation, and continued use of existing buildings, neighbourhoods, and urban environments — as an essential strategy for creating resource-efficient, climate-neutral, socially just, and aesthetically rich built environments. Bringing together perspectives from architecture, urban planning, heritage conservation, design computation, artistic research, social geography, and related disciplines, the event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on working with existing structures.

Thesis online – a doctoral dissertation based on articles in the Bulletin of Public Information and repository

Training for PhD candidates who want to learn how to legally and effectively share their doctoral dissertation composed of a collection of scientific articles. During the training, participants will become familiar with the rules for making a doctoral dissertation available in the form of a set of published and thematically related scientific articles (so-called "stapled theses" or "compilation theses") in the Bulletin of Public Information (BIP) and in MOST Wiedzy repository.
