Employee duties

All employees, regardless of their position, must fulfill the obligations arising from the provisions and principles of health and safety at work. The provisions concerning the employee's obligations are regulated by the Act of 26 June 1974, the Labor Code and the Work Regulations of Gdańsk University of Technology.

Pursuant to Art. 211 of the Labor Code, compliance with the provisions and principles of occupational health and safety is the employee's primary duty.
The employee's obligations in terms of health and safety at work have been regulated in Art. 100 and then elaborated on in Art. 211 of the Labor Code and in Chapter 3 §4 of the Work Regulations of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The practical performance of duties requires the employee to:

• know the provisions and rules of occupational health and safety, participate in training and instruction in this field and undergo the required checking examinations (Article 211 of the Labor Code), as well as confirm in writing that they have read the provisions and rules of health and safety at work (Article 2374 of the Labor Code),
• perform work in a manner consistent with the provisions and principles of health and safety at work and to comply with the orders and instructions of superiors (Article 211 of the Labor Code),
• take care of the proper condition of machines, devices, tools and equipment as well as order at the workplace (Article 211 of the Labor Code),
• use collective protection measures, as well as to use the assigned personal protective equipment as well as work clothing and footwear, in accordance with their intended use (Article 211 of the Labor Code),
• undergo initial, periodic and check-up and other prescribed medical examinations and to comply with medical indications (Article 211 of the Labor Code),
• immediately notify the supervisor of an accident noticed in the workplace or a threat to human life or health, and to warn co-workers, as well as other persons in the area of the danger (Article 211 of the Labor Code),
• cooperate with the employer and superiors in fulfilling obligations related to health and safety at work (Art. 211 of the Labor Code).

The duties of the person managing the employees, i.e. the director, manager, master, foreman, and even a regular employee appointed by the superior to perform a specific task with the help of other employees in the field of occupational health and safety, have been regulated in Art. 212 of the Labor Code and in Chapter 2 §3 of the Work Regulations of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The practical performance of duties imposes on the person managing the employees:

• the obligation to organize the workplace in accordance with the provisions and principles of health and safety at work (Article 212 of the Labor Code),
• the obligation to ensure the efficiency of personal protective equipment and to use them as intended (Article 212 of the Labor Code),
• the obligation to organize, prepare and conduct work, taking into account the protection of employees against accidents at work, occupational diseases and other diseases related to the conditions of the working environment (Article 212 of the Labor Code),
• the obligation to take care of the safe and hygienic condition of work rooms and technical equipment, as well as the efficiency of collective protection measures and their use as intended (Article 212 of the Labor Code),
• the obligation to enforce compliance by employees with the provisions and principles of health and safety at work (Article 212 of the Labor Code),
• the obligation to ensure that the recommendations of the doctor who cares for employees are followed (Article 212 of the Labor Code).
