Voice disorders are a common occupational hazard related to the work of a teacher. This is due to intense vocal effort, speaking for a long time, speaking loudly due to communicating information to large groups, sometimes in rooms with poor acoustics or with background noise.
The occurrence of voice disorders may also be influenced by factors related to the anatomy and functioning of the vocal organ, as well as age and gender. In addition, allergies, laryngitis, the use of certain medications, or hormonal changes, including thyroid disease, are also an important factor. Environmental factors also play a significant role: room acoustics, ambient noise, dry or polluted air and lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol and coffee consumption, stress), as well as incorrect voice emission and vocal habits (e.g. clearing, excessive straining of the voice).
