Demo Day Startup School One event report

Official opening of the Demo Day Startup School One event by Robert Bajko
12 teams, 8 workshop and training modules, 2 hours of project presentations in the form of pitching in front of an audience of students, PhD students, employees of Gdańsk University of Technology and guests, including potential investors - the finale of the second edition of the Startup School at Gdańsk Tech program - Demo Day Startup School One - was behind us.

The event took place on February 15, 2023 in the Auditorium of the Main Building of the Gdańsk University of Technology and was simultaneously broadcast online, for those pre-registered for the event. Each startup team that completed the second edition of Startup School One's "Test Your Idea" program was given five minutes of time on stage to present their startup project they worked on during the training cycle. After the presentation, in the allotted time, team members answered questions from the audience.

- Demo Day, marking the end of the second edition of the Startup School One program, was an extraordinary event, during which 12 teams presented the results of their several months of hard work. Observing the maturity of the projects and the business skills they acquired, I was very impressed by the progress that properly supported, talented young people can make in a short period of time. The team involved in the implementation of the Startup School One program did a great job, for which I am very grateful - concluded Robert Bajko, Startup School project manager.

New to this edition of the event was a presentation on the story of the failure of turning an idea into a viable business model by one of the teams that applied to the Startup School program. This presentation pointed out very specific lessons for participants in future programs, which only confirmed the need to discuss such cases as well.

Two of the teams presenting at Demo Day performed under a new name and with revised project assumptions with which they had originally applied to the program. These teams performed a so-called "pivot" under the guidance of the trainers leading the class, which involved additional work on their part to refine the assumptions of their post-transformation startup ideas for the finale.

The event was led by Michal Misztal founder and head of Startup Academy, whose trainers worked with Startup School One participants during this edition of the program.

Audience evaluation

A highlight of this edition of Demo Day was the questionnaires distributed to the audience gathered at the event stationary and online, asking them to anonymously evaluate the teams in terms of: innovation of the idea, quality of presentation and potential for further development. The audience's vote will be used helpfully in selecting the team that will represent Gdansk University of Technology at the international startup competition Stage Two in Berlin this fall. Approximately 40 people took part in the fun, below is the ranking of the highest rated teams in each category:
