in recognition of the special merits for the University in the field of development, promotion of science and technology, for outstanding and unquestionable scientific achievements in the field of multimedia technologies combined with documented activities in the field of commercialization of this scientific achievement, bringing tangible and significant results in the economic field, as well as didactic activity serving society.

Professor Andrzej Czyżewski

  • 1982 - graduate of MSc studies at the Faculty of Electronics at GUT

  • 1987 - doctorate with honors on a topic related to digital sound at the Faculty of Electronics at GUT

  • 1992 - habilitation thesis entitled: ‘Digital operations on phonic signals’ at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow

  • 1996 - by the decision of the Senate of Gdańsk University of Technology, promotion to the position of associate professor of Gdańsk University of Technology

  • 1999 - professorial title from the President of the Republic of Poland

  • 2003 - full professor at Gdańsk University of Technology, appointed by the Minister of Education

Since 1991 he has been managing a research and teaching department at Gdańsk University of Technology, which in 1997 was transformed into the Department of Sound Engineering, and in 2003 into the Department of Multimedia Systems, which he has been managing until now. In the years 1994-2007 he supervised the PhD Studies in Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics at Gdańsk University of Technology, which he organized.

He specializes in the field of interactive applications of multimedia technologies, in signal processing, biomedical applications, and solutions in the field of security and banking.

Professor Andrzej Czyżewski is the author and co-author of about 20 Polish and 5 international patents. Author or co-author of over 600 scientific publications in the form of articles, papers and presentations.

From the beginning of the decade, he has participated in 5 international and 6 domestic projects, cooperating with the industry (Intel Technology Poland, Samsung Polska, Young Digital Planet S. A., Microsystem sp.z o.o., PKO Bank Polski and others). The projects initiated and implemented by him have been implemented into industrial practice in the above-mentioned companies. His professional achievements include managing a total of over 40 research and research and implementation projects.

Awards:

  • annually for the las 15 years, awarded with the 1st degree Prizes of the Rector of GUT

  • laureate of the Jan Heweliusz Science Award of the City of Gdańsk (2007)

  • three-time winner of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education awards

  • two-time winner of the First Prize of the Prime Minister ‘for research and implementation achievements’ (2000 and 2014)

  • decorated with the Sendzimir Honorary Medal of SPWiR (Polish Association of Inventors), statuette ‘Polish Teleinformatics Leader’ (2014)

  • distinction with the promotional emblem ‘Teraz Polska’ and the prestigious international award ‘Prix Galien’ (2015), the so-called ‘Nobel for medicine and pharmacy’, for the invention ‘CyberOko’ (Cyber-eye) developed under his supervision

  • awarded by the Pomeranian Employers with the ‘Primum Cooperatio’ award (2018)

  • awarded by the President of the City of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz with the ‘Medal of Independence’ for the Centenary of the Independence of the Polish State (2018)

  • decorated with the Knight's Cross and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
