Stationary and remote. Organization of classes at GUT in the 2020/2021 academic year according to a hybrid model

main building of Gdańsk University of Technology
The 2020/2021 academic year will traditionally start at Gdańsk University of Technology on 1 October. However, it will be different than usually: full-time classes at the university will be held only for first-year and graduate (diploma) students, but even in their case, lectures will most often be held remotely. The remaining years/semesters will start the year with learning entirely online.

Due to the dynamically changing epidemic situation in Poland, the authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology decided to introduce a hybrid model of education in the winter semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. Basically, this means that the majority of classes for students will be held remotely, and only some of them will be conducted in the classrooms of the university. However, this mainly applies to students in the first and last semesters.

The new rules will apply only in October 2020, and the decision on the rules and form of education in the coming months may change - depending on the current epidemic situation. It is possible, however, that the hybrid model in the adopted form will be valid throughout the whole 2020/2021 winter semester.

Hybrid model of education at GUT

The new model of education was based on the current guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Chief Sanitary Inspector, related to the functioning of universities during the pandemic.

The beginning of the 2020/2021 academic year is traditionally planned for 1 October 2020, while the organization of education in the winter semester at individual faculties is given in the following CHART. Detailed information on the organization of education in individual fields of study will soon appear on individual faculty websites.

Classes planned to be conducted in a traditional way will be carried out in accordance with the applicable sanitary regime and taking into account the recommendations and guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and CSI, as well as in accordance with the regulations in force in a given facility. Remote classes will take place via the polytechnic e-learning platform, while the vast majority of laboratory classes in individual fields of study will be launched with a delay - most likely in November this year. (if the epidemic situation allows).

The deans of individual faculties are responsible for the final form of conducting classes and publishing information on this subject on the faculty websites.

Open dormitories, yet with new rules

Parallel to the introduction of new education principles at GUT during the pandemic, the process of allocating places in student dormitories for the new academic year is underway [LINK].

The dormitories will be open, but they will function differently than before - in accordance with the regulations and increased security requirements. Before moving into the dormitory, a student, doctoral student or university employee will be obliged to make a declaration about their health, and to limit visits from outside people.

All decisions regarding accommodation in GUT dormitories will be updated on a regular basis depending on the epidemic situation and the guidelines of the authorities. In case of doubts or questions, please contact the Student Housing Estate: tel. 58 3472547, e-mail: akademiki@pg.edu.pl.
