The visit of the Secretary of State Marcin Ociepa, MOD to Gdańsk University of Technology

On Tuesday, 11 May, Gdańsk University of Technology was visited by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, Marcin Ociepa. During his stay at Gdańsk Tech, he met with the university authorities and the management of the Gdańsk Tech Maritime Military Technologies Center, and also visited the model pool at the Gdańsk Tech Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology.

Apart from the secretary of the Ministry of National Defense, Marcin Ociepa, the delegation visiting Gdańsk University of Technology also consisted of : director Col. Jacek Najs (MON), director Rafał Sobolewski (NCBiR) and MP Magdalena Sroka. The delegation was received by the university authorities: prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech and prof. Janusz Nieznański, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Innovation. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology was represented by the Dean prof. Andrzej Seweryn, and the Gdańsk Tech Center for Maritime Military Technologies was represented by Andrzej Ogonowski (director) and Paweł Zariczny.

In the first part of the visit, the secretary of the Ministry of National Defense and other members of the delegation talked with the university authorities about the ongoing research projects of Gdańsk University of Technology scientists in the field of national defense and the implementation of modern military technologies developed and improved by CMMT employees.

Then they visited the Gdańsk Tech Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technologies building, where they were shown a model pool built in 2015, which is used for example for testing nautical properties of floating structures. There, they were presented with the possibilities of the OPM "Głuptak" (Gannet) submarine vehicle constructed at Gdańsk University of Technology, intended for activities related to the identification and destruction of sea mines.

– Both this facility and the research projects in the field of military technologies carried out by scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology are impressive and necessary - assessed Marcin Ociepa, Secretary of State from the Ministry of National Defense. – Our ministry supports and intends to continue to actively support all initiatives that translate into an increase in the effectiveness of Polish science and the implementation of modern military technologies - he added.

In turn, the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology, prof. Krzysztof Wilde emphasized that the development of military technologies is extremely important for the university. - Our mission is to serve Polish science - he said during the meeting. - We focus heavily on military technologies, seeing this as an opportunity for further, dynamic development of our university. We have great achievements in this field, but I am convinced that the greatest ones are still ahead of us - added the GUT rector.
