The three strongest universities in Pomerania joined their forces and in 2020 created the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk (FarU). Its most important task is to identify and prepare for the best use of the resources and potential of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk in the area of science, research, education, organization and development.

- Joint interdisciplinary research and initiatives successively implemented in synergistic areas constitute a solid basis for creating a recognizable academic center in Gdańsk that can successfully compete with the best ones in Europe and in the world - says prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, head of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities. - Forming a larger, stronger academic center can result in a broad didactic offer, effective administration and increased change management potential. The integration of universities also enables closer cooperation with local authorities and the business environment.

In order to introduce the idea of the Union not only to the academic community, we launched the website https://zwiazek-fahrenheita.edu.pl/pl and profiles in social media:

Facebook
Twitter
YouTube

through which we will inform the community about current events, as well as present the goals and main directions of joint actions. The creation of the website is one of the stages of the project "Supporting university consolidation processes", implemented under the PO WER program, co-financed by the European Social Fund. The leader of the media team responsible for the work on the Union's website and social media profiles is PhD Joanna Śliwińska, press spokeswoman of the Medical University of Gdańsk.

- This is the result of the joint, hard work of the Gdańsk Tech, UG and MUG teams, for which I would like to thank all the people involved in this process. We are aware that not everything was perfectly implemented in such a short time, and we will work on the optimization of solutions on an ongoing basis - explains PhD Joanna Śliwińska, head of the MUG's Communication Section. - I encourage you to visit the FarU website and social media profiles, as well as send comments and suggestions that will allow us to improve the functioning of the website.

On the FarU website, statutory documents, terms and conditions of granting patronage and the logotype together with the Brand Book can be found. We are successively supplementing the website with current events and initiatives undertaken within the Union of Universities. The FAQ tab offers a set of questions divided into 4 thematic blocks - General, Science, Didactics and Organization, which will improve the understanding of the idea, goals and main activities.

About the Union

The Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk (FarU) was appointed at the joint request of the rectors of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. The senates of the three universities adopted appropriate resolutions and approved the content of the Statute of the Union, defining the scope of tasks, bodies and the method of managing this new organization.

The most important task of the Union is to make the best use of the resources and potential of the three universities that are its members. Its activities focus on the development of solutions supporting joint research and development work, as well as recommendations for the consolidation or establishment of new inter-university doctoral schools.

One of the strategic tasks of the Union is to conduct a common promotion and ranking policy, especially on the international arena, as well as expressing opinions and representing common interests towards state and local administration and legislative initiatives. The union is also to strengthen the publishing activities of GUMed, Gdańsk Tech and UG.
