How to create a good quality e-learning course? The E-TECH project will help in this

the laptop on the table
For some time now, we have witnessed a dynamic development of online education and teaching through a variety of e-learning courses. This was undoubtedly due to the unexpected pandemic and the associated obligation of social isolation. All teachers, including academics, had to quickly adapt to the new working conditions. Overnight, there was a need to provide comprehensive technical and methodological support in the field of effective teaching via the Internet.

For this reason, scientists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology in cooperation with the Center for Innovative Teaching at Gdańsk Tech have developed the concept of the E-TECH project "Comprehensive project for distance teaching skills and multimedia resources for technical universities in Europe", which will help teachers all over Europe to cope with the aforementioned challenges. The leader of the initiative is Gdańsk University of Technology, which invited the Austrian FH Joanneum Gesellschaft MBH university from Graz as well as the Italian Universita Politecnica delle Marche from Ancona and the Polish Association of Academic E-learning (AAE) to cooperate.

–Employees dealing with technical sciences prepare e-learning courses, but they often lack the skills to create such training - says Marek Chodnicki, PhD from the Institute of Mechanics and Machine Design. - The main gaps that we noticed are, for example, the lack of availability of materials to prepare such a course, and the lack of a database: ready-made templates or tasks to be solved – he adds.

Interactive guide

The authors of the project plan to create an interactive e-learning and distance learning guide, prepare a course for teachers on how to create e-learning trainings and perform a sample e-learning course for students in one selected science subject. Everything will be supplemented with a generally accessible multimedia bank for teachers.

– As part of the project, a modern multimedia textbook will be created, which in an accessible and attractive way will present practical advice on designing remote classes and e-learning courses. We have a dream to develop it in such a way that everyone would like to reach for it and that everyone can find practical advice to apply immediately – emphasizes Alina Guzik, the co-author of the application.

An inter-faculty team of experts composed of: Marek Chodnicki; PhD, Eng., Alina Guzik, MSc; prof. Mariusz Deja; prof. Anna Lis; Iwona Mokwa-Tarnowska, PhD; Maciej Zaremba, MSc and Anita Dąbrowicz-Tlałka, PhD, professor at Gdańsk Tech.

The idea was appreciated and supported by a grant in the Erasmus + KA226 Strategic Partnerships for Digital Education in the Higher Education Sector.
