Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, vice-rector for organization and development, was elected the corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Professor will represent the Division IV – Engineering Sciences.  

Ordinary and corresponding members as well as members of the Academy of Young Scholars of PAN were elected during the general assembly on 3 December.

PAN members are elected in a General Assembly from among scholars distinguished by outstanding scientific output and authority, with an impeccable reputation. The number of members cannot exceed the total of 350. National member participates in the work related to the General Assembly of the academy, division, scientific and task-force committee. The member submits an annual report on their activity to the vice-president of the academy, supervising the work of a given division.

The General Assembly selected 33 ordinary members, 35 corresponding members and 18 members of the Academy of Young Scholars of PAS.

– It is a culmination of the scientific endeavors, appreciation received from the representatives of the Polish science – emphasized Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz. – My tasks remain unchanged: active work in the scientific field, educating new generations of doctors and professors, assuring the best quality of research, at a high, global level. These must be groundbreaking, contributing to qualitative changes in the world. However, this is another dream – added the Professor.


Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz graduated from the Faculty of Machine Construction at Gdańsk University of Technology. Subsequently, obtained a doctoral stipend from the University of Manchester, where in 1994 he defended his dissertation at the Department of Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering. Between the years 1994-96, he worked in Great Britain at Berkley Nuclear Laboratories, the technological background of all nuclear power plants in Great Britain. Since 1996, employed at Gdańsk University of Technology.

In 2002, he became a Doctor of Science. Between the years 2016-2019, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, from 2019 the vice-rector Organization and Development at Gdańsk University of Technology. The scientific interests of Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz focus on, inter alia, heat transfer in flow boiling and condensation, non-isothermal flows of vapor-liquid type, intensification of heat transfer in natural and forced convection as well as phase change, development of high-efficiency heat exchangers, non-conventional systems of energy conversion, dispersed power sector, mainly micro organics Rankine cycle CHP and other micro CHPs, utilization of biomass for production of components for different technological processes. He published over 270 works (including 8 monographs, 9 chapters in monographs, 49 articles from JCR ranking and 47 articles of international reach, 900 citations according to Web of Science, IH=15).
