One of the oldest buildings on the campus of Gdańsk University of Technology has been thoroughly revitalized. The spaces inside the building have gained new functions that will be used by the entire academic community of the university.

The modern center, which was built at Gdańsk Tech in the Hydromechanics building, is to fulfill a complementary function to the one located next to the Main Building of Gdańsk University of Technology. The building opening ceremony was attended by: prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Gdańsk Tech rector, vice-rectors: professor at Gdańsk Tech Marek Dzida and prof. Janusz Nieznański, deans of faculties, university chancellor Mariusz Miler and Anna Kanarska, deputy chancellor for employee affairs, directors of university centers and university employees.

– We waited impatiently for this moment and we are very happy that our university has gained a new, multi-functional space that we can all use every day - said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech. – We invite all students and employees of the university, as well as local residents and partner institutions to visit the Hydromechanics building on a regular basis - he added.

The guests of the ceremony also listened to information and interesting facts about the history of the building, which were conveyed to the audience by prof. Jakub Szczepański from the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk Tech. The dean of the Faculty of Architecture, professor Lucyna Nyka, talked about the revitalization project and the final effect of the work. Then all the guests went for a walk round the building, during which the new spaces and functions of the various spaces were presented.

Inside the renovated facility there are:

  • Welcome Office - a center for comprehensive service of foreign university guests,
  • Auditorium - a modern, fully computerized and modular teaching and conference space,
  • Creative room - a room that makes it possible to conduct classes, workshops and training in a modern, multi-functional and interactive way,
  • Hydrostacja - a two-level restaurant with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu as well as snacks and drinks,
  • Exhibition center - culture and art with a modern twist. Exhibitions and vernissages of works by Gdańsk Tech students and external artists will be prepared in a special room,
  • Gdańsk Tech gadget shop (new headquarters) - strengthening the university's brand, a wide range of high quality goods in white, red and navy blue colors. Everyone will find something for themselves in the new Gdańsk Tech store!
  • Office rooms.

– Our campus is constantly growing and gaining both new research and teaching spaces, as well as those that serve to spend free time in friendly and comfortable conditions - says Mariusz Miler, Gdańsk Tech Chancellor. – The revitalization of the building was a big challenge and it was possible to implement it thanks to the active, long-term and hard work of the Investment and Renovation Office, the Administration Office and the Property Maintenance Office. At the same time we can assure everyone that this is not the end. There are many more investments in progress or in the stage of preparation that will make our campus even more attractive to our academic community.

Gdańsk Tech investments worth PLN 0.5 billion

The revitalization of the Gdańsk Tech Hydromechanics building from 1912 cost about PLN 16 million, and the project was successfully implemented thanks to the support from the EU subsidy (which amounted to almost 40% of the costs of the entire project) granted by the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, co-financing from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the university's own funds. Renovation works were carried out under constant conservation supervision.
