The beginning of September is also a new chapter for the Fahrenheit Universities. During the Assembly of the Union, which took place on 2 September this year, rector of Gdańsk University of Technology prof. Krzysztof Wilde handed over the presidency of the Fahrenheit Universities to prof. Marcin Gruchała, the rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk.

The meeting was also attended by: prof. Piotr Stepnowski, rector of the University of Gdańsk, chairmen of university councils: Paweł Orłowski (MUG), Sławomir Halbryt (Gdańsk Tech) and prof. UW Maciej Duszczyk (University of Gdańsk), director of the Fahrenheit Universities prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, as well as prof. Michał Markuszewski (MUG) and prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz (Gdańsk Tech). At the beginning of the session, the participants unanimously adopted a resolution regarding the confirmation of taking up the position of the chairman of the Union's Assembly by prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG.

Joint, historic opening of the academic year

In the first part of the meeting the upcoming events were discussed, including the most important one - the joint opening of the academic year. For the first time, the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk will officially open the next academic year together. Justyna Borkowska, head of the Gdańsk Tech Promotion Office, presented a detailed plan of the celebration day. The City Authorities and other Gdańsk universities were invited to participate in the event. Activities related to the ceremony were planned both on Długa Street, as well as in the European Solidarity Center. Detailed information will soon be published via the Fahrenheit Universities' communication channels.

Other promotional campaigns planned until the end of this year were also discussed, such as FarU's participation in the Infoshare technology conference in October or the recording of the next podcast, Conversations with Fahrenheit.

Joint Economic Convention

Later in the meeting, the participants discussed the draft resolution on the extension of the Economic Convention, so far organized by Gdańsk University of Technology, to other universities of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities (Medical University of Gdańsk and the University of Gdańsk). Szczepan Gapiński, secretary of the Joint Economic Convention, spoke about the details during the meeting. The further term of office of Dr. Zbigniew Canowiecki, acting as chairman of the Joint Economic Convention was confirmed, and then the resolution was unanimously adopted.

The next Joint Economic Convention is scheduled for the second half of October. This cyclical event serves as a platform for exchange between the scientific and economic environment. Every year, representatives of both environments discuss all topics related to the economic development of the region and the country. Nurturing the ties between business and science, also in the form of seminars for entrepreneurs, allows us to use the potential of three universities and develop the entire region.

In the next speech, prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, corresponding member of the PAS, vice-rector for the organization and development of Gdańsk Tech, together with prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska summed up the activities carried out under the project: "Supporting the Processes of the Consolidation of Universities". The next steps related to the implementation of the guidelines adopted in the project and further scenarios of activities supporting the consolidation of the Universities were also discussed.

The next meeting of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities is scheduled for December 2022.
