Scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology awarded at the Polish Science Gala

Six scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology were awarded during the gala organized on the occasion of the Polish Science Day, which this year is part of the World Copernican Congress. The Minister of Education and Science honored outstanding scientists representing various fields of science.

The winners were awarded for merits in five categories: for significant achievements in the field of scientific, didactic, implementation, organizational and overall achievements.

– We congratulate all scientists on their achievements, thank you for discovering the truth and for your commitment to the development of our country. Without Polish scientists, there would be no development of an independent Polish state - said Minister Przemysław Czarnek during the ceremonial gala. The Minister of Education and Science granted 66 awards both at the request of eligible applicants and on his own initiative.

A team of researchers composed of: prof. Kazimierz Darowicki, Juliusz Orlikowski, PhD, DSc, Eng., Gdańsk Tech professor from the Faculty of Chemistry, Grzegorz Lentka, PhD, DSc, Eng., Gdańsk Tech professor from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, received an award in the category "Significant achievements in the field of implementation activities".

The award in this category was also awarded to Prof. Magdalena Gajewska from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, who worked in the awarded research team led by prof. Krzysztof Jóźwiakowski from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

In this category, 11 individual and team awards were awarded to 43 people. The awardees demonstrated achievements in the following areas:

  • practical use of the results of scientific research or development, in particular in industrial, scientific or commercial activities,
  • commercialization of the results of scientific activity and know-how related to these results,
  • implementation of an original design, technological or artistic achievement.

Prof. Maria Jolanta Szpakowska from the Faculty of Management and Economics received an award for lifetime achievements. Fourteen scientists were awarded in this category.

Dr Brygida Mielewska, Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics, received an award for achievement in the field of didactic activity.
